No Google account required
The phone works fully with no account at all. Google Play is optional, and you choose which profile it lives in.
Your private apps in their own sandbox
Banking and other private apps get their own encrypted profile, walled off from everything else on the phone.
How it worksEvery app's network access under your control
Switch off Network for any app and it can't connect anywhere. A Sensors toggle does the same for motion sensors.
Hardened against exploits
A hardened memory allocator, hardware memory tagging on Pixel 8 and newer, and lock-screen and USB-C protections.

Privacy guideWhat no phone can do: your carrier still sees your SIM, device and approximate location, payments leave a trail, and accounts you sign into know who you are. GrapheneOS minimizes tracking; it doesn't make you anonymous. The honest limits.
Sandbox your apps
Your bank in one box. Your life in another.
One phone, separate encrypted profiles. Each has its own apps, data and keys, and none can see into the others.
- Everyday profile, Google-free. Messaging, browser, maps. No Google Play, no Google account.
- Banking profile. Optional sandboxed Google Play plus your bank apps, and nothing else.
- End session when done. The profile stops running and its data goes back to rest, encrypted.

On GrapheneOS, Google Play is installed like any other app, with no special system access. It only exists in the profiles where you install it.
You can forward notifications from the banking profile so you still see alerts. Many banking apps work this way. Some refuse to run on any OS that isn't Google-certified, and Google Wallet tap-to-pay doesn't work. Banking compatibility notes.
